About the College:
St. Peter’s University, formerly known as St. Peter’s engineering college, is an institution known for its academic performances and co-curricular activities. The institution was started in the year 1992 and is run by the St. Joseph’s educational trust. It was initiated with the objective of providing instruction and training in engineering, research, technology and to undertake extra mural activities. The college aims at molding the students professionally for a competitive world. The mission of the institute is to generate, preserve and disseminate knowledge through rigorous academic study, inquisitiveness to understand and explore nature and entrepreneurship with creativity and innovation. It has excelled in about 15 streams in the engineering and technology field.

About our department:
St. Peter’s engineering is one of first colleges in Tamil Nadu to start B.Tech Biotechnology programme in the year 2001-2002. Department of Biotechnology has Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Genetic engineering, Bioprocess, Microbiology and Instrumental Methods of Analysis Laboratories, well equipped with specialized equipments like computer controlled Fermentor, Micro filtration Unit, PCR, FTIR, UV and IR spectrophotometer, ELISA Microplate reader with automatic washer, Fluorescent microscope with phase contrast and other attachments. The department has joined hands with various well known companies to involve in research works in different fields of biotechnology. The professors and lecturers of the department are involved in the field of research and entrepreneurship and they train the students in the same field.

About symposium:
Natura, a national level symposium, is a prestigious carnival of the biotech dept. Natura was started in the year 2004. Around 60 paper presentations across the country took place in that year. During the previous years, Natura was presided by eminent scientists in various fields of biotechnology. Students from reputed institutions throughout the nation have participated in the symposium, and have bagged prizes along with memorable experiences. This year, Natura is being held on 09and 10September,2009.It is expected to be a grand event with a vision to impart knowledge and joyous moments.
